Thematic SgSL Workshops
The THEMATIC SGSL 1-3 WORKSHOPS are designed for beginners and refreshers to provide a throughout foundation for using Singapore Sign Language (SgSL) as a second language with your d/Deaf children, colleagues, neighbours, friends and family members. Physical activities are part of these workshops to build communication and storytelling skills, including Visual-Gestural Communication* and the use of classifiers. Ten-minute fingerspelling drills are included in every workshop.
What is Visual-Gestural Communication* (VGC)?
Visual Gestural Communication is a non-verbal mode of communication where people use gestures, not voice to understand one another. This helps participants to learn to experience the world of silence, and to improve their non-verbal communication skills, including body language.
Through various VGC applications, you will be able to:
Demonstrate the ability to describe various shapes and sizes of objects.
Demonstrate the ability to describe surroundings and appearance of objects.
Demonstrate the ability to use the facial expressions to describe varying degrees of emotions.
Demonstrate the ability to use shifting perspectives to identify various viewing angles.
Demonstrate the ability to infuse gestures in signs.
Demonstrate the ability to maintain a dialogue between two or more people using gestures.
Demonstrate the ability to present a story through gestures.
Demonstrate and develop the ability to retell situations in gestures.
