Curious about Singapore Sign Language (SgSL)?
Discover SgSL is an interactive taster workshop designed for people who are new to SgSL and would like to experience visual communication, learn some basic sign-vocabulary, and gain a better understanding of the Deaf community in Singapore.
Led by a Deaf trainer, the workshop goes beyond simply memorising sign-vocabulary. Through demonstrations, hands-on activities, and guided practice, participants will experience how communication can happen visually through the hands, face, body and signing space.
No prior knowledge of SgSL is required.
What You Will Discover
During the workshop, participants will:

Learn the A-Z manual alphabet and basic fingerspelling

Learn useful everyday SgSL sign-vocabulary

Experience visual-gestural communication

Explore ways to communicate and interact respectfully with Deaf people

Gain an introduction to Deaf culture and the Deaf community in Singapore

Practise what they learn through interactive activities and guided practice
Learning Outcome
At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

Recognise and use some basic SgSL sign-vocabulary.

Demonstrate the ability to fingerspell/spell A-Z manual alphabet and numbers in Singapore Sign Language (SgSL).

Apply basic visual communication strategies when interacting with Deaf people.

Develop greater awareness of Deaf culture, communication and the Deaf community in Singapore.
Who Is It For?
This workshop is suitable for beginners with little or no prior knowledge of SgSL.
It is ideal for individuals who are curious about SgSL, Deaf culture and visual communication, as well as those who would like an introductory experience before considering further SgSL learning.
