SgSL 201 Course

Synopsis

This SINGAPORE SIGN LANGUAGE SgSL 201 COURSE begins the intermediate level, focusing on enhancing conversational fluency with an introduction to visual-spatial rules and basic classifiers. Students learn how to use space around them to represent locations, actions, and interactions between people, animals and objects, which is fundamental to conveying meaning in SgSL. The course includes exercises to apply these rules in storytelling and descriptions, enhancing the students' ability to construct coherent narratives.

Learning Outcome
Upon successful completion of the SgSL 201 course, students will be able to:

  1. Enhanced Conversational Fluency: Demonstrate improved fluency in Singapore Sign Language conversations, effectively using a broader and more complex range of vocabulary and sentence structures.

  2. Mastery of Visual-Spatial Rules: Understand and apply visual-spatial rules in SgSL, using the space around them to depict locations, actions, and interactions in a clear and effective manner.

  3. Use of Basic Classifiers: Gain foundational knowledge of classifiers in SgSL, employing them to represent people, animals, and objects, thereby adding depth and clarity to narratives and descriptions.

  4. Narrative Construction Skills: Develop the ability construct coherent and engaging narratives, utilizing visual-spatial rules and classifiers to enhance storytelling and descriptive communication.

  5. Practical Application: Apply learned concepts in practical exercises, demonstrating the ability to use SgSL for detailed storytelling and description in real-life situations and interactions.

  6. Preparation for Advanced Intermediate Study: Be well-prepared for further intermediate studies in SgSL, with a solid foundation in the visual-spatial aspects of the language that are critical for advanced communication and understanding.

Certificates of attendance, in the form of electronic documents, will be issued to students upon completion of the course. These certificates will be delivered via email to the registered email address of each student.
